Missing teeth affect more than your smile. They change how you speak, what you can eat and, over time, the shape of your face as the jawbone shrinks. Dental implants are the only replacement option that addresses all of this, because they replace the root as well as the visible tooth. At Purley Dental Care, we place single, multiple and full arch implants for patients across Purley, Croydon, Coulsdon and South Surrey, with every case planned using our in-house CBCT scanner.
A dental implant is a small titanium post placed inside your jawbone, acting as an artificial root. Once it fuses with the bone (osseointegration, typically 8 to 16 weeks), a custom crown, bridge or prosthesis is fixed on top. The result looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth – fixed in place, not removable, and actively preserving the bone beneath.

Before any surgery, we use our in-house CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) scanner to produce a detailed 3D image of your jaw, teeth, sinuses and nerve pathways. It is significantly more detailed than a standard X-ray, and shows us:

We examine your teeth and gums, review your health history and discuss your goals. This tells us whether implants are suitable and which approach fits best.
We take a 3D scan of your jaw and use it to map implant positions precisely. You receive a full plan covering the procedure, timeline and costs before anything is booked.
Some patients need extractions, gum disease treatment or bone grafting before implants can be placed. Not always required, but critical for long-term success where it is.
Carried out under local anaesthetic, typically one to three hours. IV sedation is available for nervous patients. You will feel pressure but not pain.
The implant fuses with the surrounding bone. A temporary restoration protects the site and you can eat on the opposite side throughout.
Once fusion is confirmed, the abutment is attached and impressions taken. Your lab-fabricated crown, bridge or prosthesis is fitted, colour-matched to your natural teeth. Maintain it with brushing, flossing and regular hygiene appointments. Full journey detail on our patient journey page.

All implant treatment is placed by Dr. Fayaz Rashid (GDC No: 153854), Implant Dentist and Minor Oral Surgeon. He qualified BDS at Sheffield (2008), then completed dual Master’s degrees in Implantology at the University of Bristol and Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manchester, both in 2017 – an unusual combination even among implant specialists.
His surgical training includes an intensive Master Course in Complex Bone Grafting with Dr. Istvan Urban (2022 and 2023) – one of the world’s leading authorities in bone regeneration. He also completed the Besler Course in Bristol, the Createch Course in Spain, SAAD IV sedation training, and the Straumann Implant Course. Every procedure is performed at 5x magnification using dental loupes.

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, the titanium post typically lasts indefinitely. Clinical data shows 95%+ survival rates at ten years. The crown on top may need replacing after 15 to 20 years.
Placement is under local anaesthetic – you will feel pressure but not pain. Some soreness and swelling for a few days afterwards is normal and managed easily with over-the-counter painkillers. IV sedation is available if you are anxious.
Typically four to nine months from consultation to final crown. Most of that is the osseointegration period. The appointments themselves are not lengthy and are spread across that window.
Not always. Many patients have enough bone to proceed directly. Our CBCT scan tells us before we plan anything. Where grafting is needed, we walk you through what is involved, the timeline and the cost.
