Crooked, crowded or spaced teeth are one of the most common reasons people put off smiling in photos. Invisalign treats the underlying alignment using a series of clear, custom-made plastic aligners that gradually move your teeth into position. You take them out to eat and clean, nobody can tell you are wearing them and there are no wires or brackets involved. At Purley Dental Care, Invisalign is provided by Dr. Sonam Bhatia, an LDS RCS-qualified dentist with a specialist interest in clear aligner treatment, serving patients across Purley, Croydon, Coulsdon and South Surrey.
Invisalign is a clear aligner system made by Align Technology. Rather than fixed brackets and wires, treatment uses a series of removable trays – each one custom-made from smooth, BPA-free plastic – that gently shift your teeth by a fraction of a millimetre with each change. You wear each set for one to two weeks, then move on to the next, with check-up appointments every six to eight weeks. The aligners are virtually invisible when worn and can be removed for eating, drinking and cleaning teeth.
It is one of the most clinically documented aligner systems available, with over 20 million patients treated globally. Purley Dental Care is an official Invisalign provider, meaning Dr. Sonam has completed Align Technology’s certified training programme and works directly within their treatment framework.

Your Invisalign treatment starts with a scan of your teeth rather than traditional impressions. This produces a precise 3D model of your mouth that is used to design your aligner series and generate a virtual preview of how your teeth are expected to move across the course of treatment.
You will be able to see your projected end result before a single aligner is made. The digital model is also used by the Invisalign laboratory to manufacture your custom trays to exact tolerances.

Invisalign treatment at Purley Dental Care is provided by Dr. Sonam Bhatia (GDC No: 262929), Associate Dentist with a specialist interest in clear aligners and cosmetic dentistry. She qualified BDS in 2011 and went on to achieve the LDS qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons, London – a postgraduate examination that tests clinical knowledge and judgement across the full breadth of dentistry.

Treatment length depends on the complexity of your case. Mild to moderate cases typically take six to twelve months. More complex alignment issues can take up to 18 months. Dr. Sonam will give you an estimated timeline after your digital scan at consultation.
Most patients feel some pressure for the first day or two after switching to a new set of aligners. This is normal and a sign the teeth are moving. It is usually mild and settles quickly. There are no sharp brackets or wires to cause irritation.

Teeth have a natural tendency to drift back towards their original position without retention. This can begin relatively quickly. A retainer – fixed, Essix or Vivera – is an essential part of protecting your result long-term, not an optional add-on.
