Spark clear aligners are a modern, removable solution that gradually moves your teeth into their correct position using a series of custom-made, virtually invisible trays.
At Purley Dental Care, we offer Spark aligners for adults and teens across Purley, Croydon, Coulsdon, Wallington, Kenley and South Surrey. Treatment is led by Dr. Sonam Bhatia, whose special interest in clear aligners includes both Invisalign and Spark, giving our patients access to a broader range of aligner options than most local practices provide.
Spark clear aligners are manufactured by Ormco, a long-established orthodontic technology company. Each aligner is custom-made using precise digital scans of your teeth and is designed to apply gentle, controlled force to move teeth gradually into their planned positions. You wear each set for one to two weeks before progressing to the next, and aligners should be worn for around 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, drink anything other than water, and clean your teeth.
Spark aligners are made from TruGEN material, which is designed to be clearer, more stain-resistant and more comfortable than earlier aligner materials. The edges of each Spark tray are scalloped and hand-trimmed to follow the natural gumline, which reduces irritation during wear.

Spark aligner treatment is led by Dr. Sonam Bhatia (BDS 2011, LDS 2016, GDC No: 262929), Principal Dentist and Practice Owner. With over a decade of clinical experience and a special interest in clear aligners, Dr. Sonam holds both Spark and Invisalign provider status and has refined her approach to smile design under the mentorship of Christopher Orr, one of the UK’s most respected cosmetic and restorative dentists. Her recommendations are based on what is clinically right for each patient, not on familiarity with a single brand.
Spark aligners are offered by a smaller number of practices than Invisalign. We are one of the only practices in the local area currently providing Spark, which means patients from Purley, South Croydon, Coulsdon and surrounding areas do not need to travel far to access this system.

We are at 22 Pampisford Road in Purley, a short walk from Purley train station, and serve patients from South Croydon, Coulsdon, Caterham, Kenley, Sanderstead and Wallington. We offer early morning appointments Monday to Friday (Thursday until 8pm) and Saturday morning slots.
We use digital intraoral scanning rather than traditional physical moulds, capturing a precise 3D model of your teeth in minutes with no impression material and no discomfort. This scan data feeds directly into the Spark treatment planning software, so you can see a visualisation of your projected end result before committing to treatment.
For cases requiring greater detail, we also have an in-house CBCT scanner. This produces a full 3D image of your jaw, teeth and bone structure to a level of precision a standard X-ray cannot match, with results available the same day.
Both are clear aligner systems that use custom-made, removable trays to move teeth gradually. The main differences are in the aligner material and design. Spark uses TruGEN material, which is designed to be clearer and more resistant to staining from everyday food and drink. The edges of Spark trays are also scalloped and trimmed to follow the gumline, which some patients find more comfortable during extended daily wear. Invisalign has the longer clinical track record, having been on the market since the late 1990s. At Purley Dental Care we offer both systems and will recommend the most appropriate one for your case.
Spark aligners can treat a wide range of cases including crowding, spacing, deep bite, open bite, crossbite, overjet and underbite. Suitability depends on the complexity of your individual case, the health of your teeth and gums, and your commitment to wearing the aligners for the required hours each day. We assess all of this at your consultation. Patients with active gum disease or significant untreated decay will need these addressed before starting aligner treatment.
Treatment length depends on the complexity of the tooth movements required. Simpler cases may complete in a matter of months. More complex cases can take longer. We will give you a projected timeline at your consultation once we have assessed your teeth and produced your treatment plan.
Some patients experience mild pressure or discomfort for a day or two when switching to a new set of aligners. This is normal and reflects the aligners beginning to move the teeth. It typically settles quickly. The scalloped edge design of Spark trays is intended to reduce gum irritation during wear.
